So, why should you stay in Akureyri?
Akureyri is the second largest city in Iceland, falling right under the capital Reykjavik. Even though locals referred to it as a “big city”, it is still a relatively small town with a population around 18,000 people.
The benefit of it being on the smaller side, is that you can stay at pretty much any of the Akureyri hotels or hostels and be within walking distance of the center of town. Akureyri is a very peaceful town with gorgeous mountain views and a laid back vibe.
